1:32 50 Years of LeMans Ford MKIV/GTE

Article number: 50003893A Product: 1:32 50 Years of LeMans Ford MKIV/GTE The 1966 Le Mans had gone down in history as one of the most famous victories ever, it was a grudge match, as Henry Ford II wanted to beat Enzo Ferrari in the Italian's back yard. Remarkably, Ford took a clean sweep on the podium with a 1-2-3 finish with Bruce McLaren and Chris Amon winning. Ford went on to win the next 3 Le Mans. 50 years later and ford were to return to Le Mans in the all new Ford GT. The circumstances were slightly different, but the result was almost the same. In the GTE Pro racing class, two notches below the top prototype class, an all-new Ford GT outlasted a staunch challenge from Ferrari, also running an all-new 488 car. If not for Risi Competizione's efforts, Ford might have repeated the 1966 result; as it was, the team finished 1-3-4, - Limited Edition 5.000 - Twin Pack Legend - 50 years Ford at Le Mans - Ford GTE No.67 - Ford MKIV No.1 - Scalextric Digital-Dekoder 500008515 - Carson Digital-Dekoder 500707130

Until then, Gulf had been racing with the Kremer Porsche, that is, until Allerton met with ‘gentleman driver’ Ray Bellm who had recently persuaded McLaren to build a racing variant of the F1 Sports car. So impressed was Allerton that he signed the deal even before McLaren designer Gordon Murray had completed the designs for the new car. With fellow ‘gentleman driver’ Thomas Bscher purchasing the first off the production line, Bellm snapped up the second and won the BPR Global GT title with Gulf Racing in 1996. Some bad fortune in the opening rounds dented the team’s championship hopes, but there can be no doubt that the car was amongst the most striking on the grid, and probably the best sounding, powered by the mighty V8 engine. 1:32 VW Beetle/Camper Van – W.C. Rat HD

Article number: 50003966A Product: 1:32 VW Beetle/Camper Van – W.C. Rat HD Despite today being highly desirable collectors cars, the Volkswagen Beetle and T1b Camper van did however go through an era of being both out of fashion and affordable to those on the fringes of modern society. The surf culture of the 1970s/80s saw many flock to the plentiful, cheap and easy to maintain air cooled Volkswagens. As the cars became more popular some sought to keep the cars going, but allowing the body to look faded, rusty, and generally downtrodden. Thus ‘Rat Look’ was born. Popular also on 1950s American trucks and pickups today it is a much followed automotive scene, with many seeking to make once immaculate cars into replicas of the sort of cars those who surfed all day and partied all night used to park on Californian beaches. 1:32 Mini Cooper S #11 Britax HD

The 500003640 Scalextric model Mini Cooper is based upon the BRITAX sponsored car as raced by Steve Neal who finished in 9th place (5th in class) in the Wipac Trophy race, a round of the 1969 British Saloon Car Championship supporting the British Grand Prix at Silverstone. Steve Neal, father of BTCC driver Matt Neal, regularly raced in 1968 and 1969 in a Morris Mini Cooper in the BSCC (British Saloon Car Championship - the fore-runner of BTCC). After racing for the Cooper Car Co., Neal gained a seat in a two-car Morris Mini Cooper S team in 1969. With team partner Gordon Spice and the Britax-Cooper-Downton team, Neal soon made the yellow and black Minis firm favourites with race fans.
